Phonological processes are regularly occurring deviations in the child’s speech, usually simplifications of adult phonological patterns. Examples of deficient phonological processes include final and/or initial consonant sound deletion, fronting (substituting /t/ for /k/), backing (substituting /k/ for /t/), stopping (substituting /t/ for /s/), cluster reduction (e.g.,’ boo’ for ‘blue’), gliding (/w/ for /r/ and/or /l/), etc. Remediation is organized into cycles, in which all deficient phonological patterns are targeted in succession in carefully controlled target words. The patterns are repeated in subsequent cycles until the adult phonological patterns have been facilitated.
Phonological awareness is the knowledge of sounds in our language and how those sounds blend together to form words, phrases and sentences. Activities included in a phonological awareness program include rhyming, identifying beginning and ending sounds in words, segmenting and blending syllables and sounds, changing sounds in words and associating sounds with letters. These skills are important in learning how to read and spell.

About beckydoidge
I am a wife and mother of two children that loves to live with purpose... and can't get enough of the outdoors. After receiving a B.S. in Communication Disorders and Psychology from Colorado State University - Pueblo in 1998 I continued with graduate studies at Northern Arizona University receiving a M.S. in Speech-language Pathology in 2000. I have spent the last several years providing speech and language therapy in the school, home, private practice, and hospital settings as well as serving in full time ministry. I have also had the opportunity to travel internationally to train churches on “why and how” they can use ministry to special needs children and their families as an outreach to a hurting population. I currently is employed by Children’s Hospital Colorado and provides parent training and on the side consulting to families and churches. It is my passion to see children walk toward who God created them to be. I understand and incorporate the philosophy that it is the parents to take the primary role in raising and educating their children to learn. Thus, nothing I do is in isolation, providing parents tools to use in their everyday lives to help their children reach their potential.
